How to use this calculator
Etsy's US seller fees, as published for 2026, have four parts. A listing fee of $0.20 per item, renewed every four months or when it sells. A transaction fee of 6.5% of the order total, including shipping and gift wrap but not sales tax. Payment processing of 3% plus $0.25 per order for US shops using Etsy Payments. And, for orders that come through Etsy's Offsite Ads, an extra 15% of the order (12% for shops that made $10,000 or more in the last year), capped at $100 per order. The calculator adds those up for one order.
On The Spool List there is no listing fee and no pay-per-lead. The platform takes a commission per completed order: 10% on the free maker plan, 7% on Pro ($14.99 a month) and 5% on Premium ($29.99 a month). Card payments run through Stripe on the maker's own account, so the processing fee is whatever your Stripe account charges; the default here is Stripe's standard US card rate of 2.9% plus $0.30, and you can change it to your own rate.
The comparison is per order and leaves out the monthly fees of the paid plans: divide the monthly fee by your sales per month to see what each sale carries. It also leaves out things that differ between shops, such as currency conversion, sales tax handling, subscriptions like Etsy Plus and the cost of your own advertising. Fee schedules change, so check Etsy's and The Spool List's current pages before relying on the numbers.

Questions about this calculator
How much does Etsy take from a $100 sale?
On a $100 order with no shipping and no Offsite Ads: $0.20 listing + $6.50 transaction + $3.25 processing = $9.95, so you keep about $90.05 before your own costs. Offsite Ads would add $15 more for a smaller shop.
Does The Spool List charge a listing fee?
No. Makers list their work and bid on commissions free; the platform takes a commission on completed orders (10% on the free plan).
